Moment of Shock and Regret, The Death of Pa Alani Emmanuel Egbewunmi - Olatunji
The sudden death of my father, Pa Alani Emmanuel Egbewunmi, on May 13, 2024, was a devastating shock to our family. The incident that led to his death was a direct result of the news of my younger brother, Jaiyeola's same-sex relationship and the subsequent humiliation and harassment he faced from Ezekiel's wife and the community.
The news had a profound impact on my father's health, exacerbating his existing diabetes and high blood pressure. Despite being a proud and supportive father to Jaiyeola throughout his life, the shock and heartbreak of this news proved too much for him to bear.
My father's health began to deteriorate rapidly, and he became bedridden. Despite the efforts of our family and medical professionals at LASUTH, his condition continued to worsen. After being discharged from the hospital, he felt the absence of Jaiyeola deeply, which further accelerated his decline.
Surrounded by his loved ones, Pa Alani Emmanuel Egbewunmi eventually passed away, leaving our family to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted father. His death marked the beginning of a difficult and challenging period in our lives, and we continue to grapple with the pain and regret of his passing.
My father's burial took place on June 28, 2024, without my younger brother in attendance, as he had relocated with his family for safety due to constant harassment by Ezekiel's wife.
"It is now over five months since his passing, and we are still missing our father, a man of great value and respect. We will forever remember you, Pa Alani Emmanuel Egbewunmi."
