TM NEWS SUMMIT AND AWARD: Customs Officer Fatai A.A. Honored for Exceptional Service

By Olatunji Peter

A Customs Officer with the Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Superintendent of Customs (SC) Fatai A.A., has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to community development and his role in promoting economic growth and national security. The award was presented at the 12th Annual Media Summit of TM News Publication, held at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.

SC Fatai attributed the recognition to the visionary leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, who has inspired officers to perform beyond expectations. "We are working under the great shadow and support of our CGC, Adewale MFR, whose leadership spirit drives us to always give our best," he said.

As Assistant Technical Supervisor at the Tin Can Island Command, SC Fatai prioritizes a balanced approach, integrating core operational duties with proactive community outreach. He allocates 20% of his weekly schedule to initiatives such as stakeholder sensitization workshops, promoting fair trade practices and reducing clearance delays. This approach has enhanced efficiency, built trust, and promoted local livelihoods.

The Comptroller-General's emphasis on transformative reforms and capacity-building has been instrumental in SC Fatai's career progression. He credits his current successes to the CGC's leadership, which has equipped him with skills in technical oversight and inspired him to lead with integrity.

SC Fatai's strong relationship with the media stems from his tenure as Assistant Technical Supervisor, where he honed skills in technical support and built enduring networks with journalists. This experience enables him to facilitate accurate media engagements, promoting compliance and community awareness.

The award is a testament to SC Fatai's commitment to ethical leadership and community impact. "There are so many ways to contribute to community development, and this award shows that people are watching and appreciating what we do," he said. Receiving the award motivates him to deepen his contributions to transparent governance and economic growth, inspiring his team to elevate their contributions.

SC Fatai described the TM News award as a "profound honor" that recognizes collective excellence in public service journalism and Customs-media synergy. He pledged to continue promoting innovation, integrity, and community impact in Nigeria's trade sector.
